Smulders Foundations B.V.

A stable partner for stable offshore constructions.

The renewable energy branch made its first steps towards generating wind energy at sea in 2002. The Horns Rev 1 project in Denmark was the very first time a series of 80 turbines had been installed at 12 to 14 km from the coast. These turbines were placed on foundations produced by Smulders Group. Later this new branch of generating energy was approached in a structured manner in the UK, where the option was made for several wind farms of 25 to 30 turbines, in the so-called “Round 1 Demonstration Phase”. Smulders Group has produced the majority of these foundations and has developed itself from pioneer to specialist with a leading market position. With the first “Round 2 Project” in the UK, Thanet, Smulders Group has now realized a track record of over 600 produced monopile foundations, completed with secondary components.

To meet the strong increasing demand for capacity and efficiency, a new production hall was built besides the existing hall in Antwerp. All experience has been translated into the realisation of a "lean" production unit which guarantees a high quality end product with a short lead time at the best price. The location is completely set up for current and future generations of foundations like jackets, tripods, tripiles and the like. In total, Smulders Group can produce over 200 foundations a year.

Within the division Wind turbine constructions, Smulders Foundations B.V. is responsible for the complete delivery of offshore foundations.
